Careers & Training

Rachel Elton-Jones is responsible for the overall management of Culwood House and its employees and has been working at Culwood House since 2008. She is Anita Larkin’s daughter and grew up in Culwood House’s sister home, White Hill House. Before working at Culwood House she worked for Morgan Stanley in London.

The proprietor, Anita Larkin, has been in the care home business over 30 years and resides at and manages Culwood’s sister home, White Hill House. The full and part time staff consist of a team of fourteen carers, three senior carers, one chef, one deputy manager, and one admin manager. The majority of them are long serving and experienced. Four employees have their Level 3 QCF/NVQ in Health and Social Care and six employees have their NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care. We also have staff currently working towards these qualifications.

All staff are obliged to be trained in manual handling, infection prevention and control, health and safety, adult safeguarding, medication, fire safety awareness, the Mental Health Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards, nutrition and hydration and equality and diversity. Some also attend training on first aid and basic food safety. These qualifications are updated regularly. We also encourage staff to attend courses outside of mandatory areas such as falls prevention, Parkinson’s, care plan written skills, bereavement and loss and challenging behaviour. Three members of staff have completed a QCF Level 3 diploma in end of life care led by the Florence Nightingale Hospice.

All new care staff are expected to complete a ‘Care Certificate’ as part of their induction and this is usually completed within 3 months from start of employment.
